In order to inspire you, I’m interviewing several junk journal enthusiasts to find out how they use their junkDori! Let me introduce you to Brand Ambassador Meg, (aka @Megjournals) Meg is a junk journaler, hoarder of paper and obsessed with all things creative. She’s been sharing her art journals on online for almost a decade. When Meg’s not binding journals or creating mixed-media collages, you’ll find her working on a crochet blanket, attempting DIY on her renovation project, or reading with a cup of tea.
What style, size and colour is your junkDori?
My junkDori is 2 x 4.5in — tiny but chunky! I have a soft spot for smaller junk journals, so I love working in this little landscape size.
I usually gravitate towards neutral tones, but the teal cover really stands out against the neutral palette of the papers inside! So I’ve leaned into that by adding pops of colour to other pages throughout, like pink stitching to make a teeny pocket.
What do you mainly use your junkDori for?
Collage is a huge part of my junk journaling practice, so I’ve been creating collage clusters on the different pages. I add layers like brown paper, tissue, used stamps, book papers… all sorts!
In true junk journal style, I’ve been using the everyday ephemera that would otherwise go to waste. I’ve turned junk mail envelopes into transparent pockets, made tip-ins from yarn packaging, and pages from stamped envelopes. If it’s not stuck down, it’s going in my junk journal. (And if it is stuck down, I’ll have a good try at peeling it up!)
I’ve even collaged on a leather sample from a previous GS&I collection back in the day!
How do you use your junkDori day to day?
It’s perfect to have next to me on my desk for when I have five minutes to create. I have been pasting in scrap papers and offcuts (because I can never throw out paper) to build up backgrounds. Anything goes!
It’s not as intimidating to work on a little page when I have a moment to spare or want to warm up before working on another creative project.
& finally, why do you love it?
Being able to take pages out to work on them! I love the flexibility of moving pages around, or add in extra junk journal papers too!
