MODERN CALLIGRAPHY FOR WEDDINGS, EVENTS & BRANDS, CREATED IN NORTHUMBERLAND WITH CARE, CHARACTER AND A LOVE OF BEAUTIFUL DETAILS.
Hi, Nice to meet you, I’m Rebecca!
Grace & Salt ink began in 2015 with one small but meaningful commission: a modern calligraphy order that came through Instagram. That first “yes” gave me the confidence to begin creating professionally from my kitchen table, and before long Grace & Salt ink had grown into far more than I could have imagined.
Calligraphy was where it all started, but along the way the business took a few lovely turns.
Not long after Grace & Salt ink began, I discovered the traveller’s notebook system and fell in love with the idea of keeping several notebooks together inside one leather cover. At the time, the traditional TN and Passport sizes never quite worked for me and refills could be difficult to find in the UK, so I began making my own covers to fit the Moleskine Cahier notebooks I already loved using. And that was how the inkDori was born.
For many years, handmade journals became a big part of Grace & Salt ink. I made and personalised inkDori covers for journal keepers around the world - whilst hand lettering the front of their inserts with favourite quotes, sayings or lyrics - and it has been incredibly special knowing that something created at my worktable has gone on to hold someone’s thoughts, plans, memories and stories. Journaling also became a big part of the Grace & Salt ink community, which is why you will still find plenty of journaling inspiration and advice in the blog. Those articles represent an important chapter in the story of the business, and I hope they continue to be a useful and encouraging resource for anyone who finds their way to them.
But businesses evolve, just as people do.
After moving to beautiful Northumberland and growing our family, more recently I have spent more time thinking about the kind of work I most wanted Grace & Salt ink to be known for, and I found myself being drawn back to where everything began.
Calligraphy.
Today, the focus of Grace & Salt ink is creating bespoke modern calligraphy for weddings, private celebrations, corporate events and brand activations.
From handwritten place cards and envelopes to wedding signage, table plans and live event calligraphy, I love creating the small, thoughtful details that make an occasion feel personal. There is something very special about putting pen to paper and creating something by hand, particularly in a world where so much of what we see and receive is digital.
I work with couples, individuals, event organisers and brands across Northumberland, Newcastle and the wider North East, as well as selected projects further afield. Whether I am writing the name of every guest at a wedding or personalising something live at an event, the same care and attention goes into every piece.
Grace & Salt ink has changed considerably since that first Instagram commission in 2015 (as has my lettering!) but the heart of it has remained much the same.
A love of beautiful lettering.
A belief in the value of things made by hand.
And a desire to create thoughtful details that feel personal, meaningful and a little bit special.
If you have a wedding, event or project in mind, I would love to hear about it.
