Handwritten Calligraphy Place Cards for Weddings & Events
A guest’s name may be one of the smallest details on your wedding table, but it can also be one of the most personal.
Each Grace & Salt ink place card is individually handwritten in modern calligraphy, creating a beautiful finishing touch for your table styling and a little keepsake for your guests to take home.
From classic folded place cards to textured handmade paper, every name is written by hand in my Northumberland studio and can be tailored to complement the colours, style and feel of your wedding or event.
Personalised Place Cards, Written by Hand
There is something particularly lovely about seeing your own name written beautifully by hand. Unlike printed place cards, each Grace & Salt ink place name is individually lettered, giving every guest their own unique piece of calligraphy. Whether you are planning an elegant country-house wedding, a relaxed celebration, a contemporary city wedding or an intimate dinner, your place cards can be created to sit naturally alongside the rest of your table styling. Choose from modern calligraphy, expressive brush lettering and flourished styles, with different paper and ink combinations available to suit your plans.
Classic Folded Wedding Place Cards
Traditional tent-style place cards are created using premium, responsibly sourced G.F Smith 270gsm card stock, chosen for its quality, weight and beautiful finish. Each card measures approximately 80 x 100mm when flat and 80 x 50mm when folded, giving the calligraphy plenty of space while sitting neatly within your place setting.
Names can be written in a clean modern calligraphy style or with additional flourishes depending on the look you would like to create. These work beautifully placed beside a table setting, on a plate or tucked alongside a menu or napkin.
Handmade Paper Place Cards
For something a little softer and more organic, handmade paper is also available. Approximately 95 x 71mm, each piece has its own naturally deckled edge and gently textured finish. Because the paper is handmade, no two pieces are completely identical, adding to their individual character.
Names can be written in modern calligraphy or brush lettering, creating a particularly beautiful option for romantic, relaxed and thoughtfully styled weddings.
Colours and Calligraphy Styles
Your place cards do not have to be limited to black ink on white paper. Where possible, paper and ink colours can be chosen to work with your wider wedding palette, stationery or table styling. If you already have invitations, menus or other wedding stationery in place, you are welcome to share photographs or samples so that we can discuss how your handwritten place names could complement them.
Not sure which combination would work best? I am always happy to talk through the options with you.
Created for More Than Weddings
Although many Grace & Salt ink place cards are created for weddings, handwritten names can add a thoughtful finishing touch to all kinds of gatherings.
They are also perfect for:
private dinners and celebrations
Christmas tables
milestone birthdays
corporate dinners
brand events
press events
intimate gatherings
Each project can be tailored to the occasion and the style you are hoping to create.

Frequently Asked Questions
How far in advance should I order wedding place cards?
The earlier the better, particularly for weddings taking place during busy periods. Your final guest list does not necessarily need to be ready when you first enquire. Get in touch with your wedding date and approximate guest numbers and I can advise on availability and when I will need your final names.
Can you match my wedding colours?
Where possible, yes. Paper and ink colours can be selected to complement your existing wedding stationery, flowers or wider colour palette. If you already have stationery, you are welcome to send photographs or samples when we discuss your project.
Can you write on place cards I already have?
Potentially, yes. If you already have your wedding stationery and would simply like the guest names added by hand, get in touch with details of the paper or card you are using. I will need to make sure the surface is suitable for calligraphy before confirming the commission.
Can you create matching table signage?
Yes. Grace and Salt ink can also create coordinating handwritten table names, table numbers and other wedding signage, helping the individual calligraphy details feel considered throughout your wedding.
Do you only create place cards for weddings in Northumberland?
Grace & Salt ink is based in Northumberland and works with couples and clients across the North East. Please get in touch if your wedding or event is taking place further afield to discuss your project.
