INSIDE MY JUNKDORI - Jane

In order to inspire you, I’m interviewing several junk journal enthusiasts to find out how they use their junkDori! Let me introduce you to Jane, (aka @the_journaling_queen)

Jane has been keeping a daily journal for over ten years - it is an obsession which combines writing, painting, collage and doodling. Other than journaling, Jane is happiest reading with a cup of tea, gardening swimming in the sea or  walking on the beach. The last two are tricky as she lives is Shropshire, but she is a dreamer…

What style, size and colour is your junkDori?

At the moment, I am using a two-ring, deep blue measuring 3 x 4.5. I also have a two-ring pink on my desk, measuring 3 x 4.5 which is up next! I also have my eye on a larger chocolate one, which would be interesting to use because it’s got landscape pages.

What do you mainly use your junkDori for?

I use it to collage and add altered playing cards, handmade collage fodder and tags – I like it when the book gets more chunky as time goes on. One of the reasons I love journaling is the mix of words and pictures, so I also use it to write ‘found’ poetry (with words chosen from old book pages) as well as using pages of text to write blackout poetry.

How do you use your junkDori day to day?

I keep it on my desk and it is my-go to creative practice on days when I feel overwhelmed or out of ideas – the tiny pages make it feel manageable to complete a little project. I am not very good at getting rid of scraps of paper, so finding colours, words or textures which go together to make a miniature journal spread is very satisfying and helps reduce my stash.

This summer I took it on holiday too, with a pouch of scraps and glue and enjoyed collaging in the open air with my morning tea.

And finally, why do you love it?

The thing that appeals most to me is that the variety of vintage papers give me a starting point, maybe a colour, or a word that sparks an idea. There is no blank page fear and it feels like a collaboration between me and the beautiful pages Rebecca has chosen.
